Weimar (dpa / th) - Strangers cheated on a senior citizen with the grandchildren trick of more than 48,000 euros.
The 82-year-old from Weimar followed telephone instructions from fraudsters and transferred the money to them on Wednesday, as the police announced on Friday.
Accordingly, a caller had alleged that the granddaughter had caused a traffic accident in which a young man from Lithuania was fatally injured.
Their threatened deportation can only be prevented with a deposit payment.
Another woman said crying about the accident on the phone.
According to the police, the elderly woman only realized the fraud when she later contacted her granddaughter.
In the past several seniors have been cheated of money with the grandchildren's trick.
