Gelsenkirchen (AP) - Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 will file criminal charges after the latest fan attacks and will return to regular training on Monday with increased security measures.

The club announced this on Friday after a meeting between the team and officials at the first meeting since the incidents on the club's premises.

The club had already "initiated measures to ensure the safety of players and coaches" for the return to training, said the club, which has been relegated. "Furthermore, the association will file a criminal complaint with the police and not only push ahead with the internal investigation of the incidents with all its might, but also support the authorities as far as possible in the investigation."

After returning from the 1-0 defeat at Arminia Bielefeld on Tuesday, which sealed Schalke's relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga, the team was received by 500 to 600 supporters, according to the police, and sometimes faced with "massive aggression".

Eggs flew, players fled and there are said to have been kicks against professionals.

The Gelsenkirchen police now want to investigate the events with an investigative commission.
