Dramatic inspiration

The story of the two famous sisters, "Raya and Sakina", who raised the horror of women and the concern of the Egyptian police in Alexandria nearly 100 years ago, has been an inexhaustible source for the imagination of drama makers over the past decades, as their life story deals with many works of art between cinema, theater and television drama.

Their story continues to be a source of renewed inspiration for modern works, as the events of the series being written and produced in Alexandria in 1920, when Egypt was under British rule, and the series - which Terry George will also direct - will chronicle the true story of the Egyptian sisters Rayya and Sakina, when the two sisters came from a poor neighborhood in Alexandria. They rose from poverty by running a brothel, according to what was documented in the prosecution's investigations at the time, in conjunction with the formation of a strong and influential circle of relationships with police officers and informants.

The two sisters relied on petty thefts, from the possessions of their 17 female victims.

In the end the two sisters were tried and became the first women to be sentenced to death, causing widespread social protest.

It is likely that the series will be filmed in Arabic with the English language to reflect the stage of British rule, and to explore the details of life under the British rule of Egypt, according to what was published by the Hollywood Report, which included a statement by writer and director Terry George saying, "I look forward to cooperating with a real international team of Talented producers and storytellers to investigate the wonderful true story of the two Hammam sisters.

He continued, "I am particularly pleased to work with the famous Egyptian writer Maryam Naoum to address the issue that also includes the global issues of sexism, greed and lost love, while containing all the captivating elements of the mythical crime."

"She is very excited to be a part of this project," Maryam Naoum said, adding, "I feel fortunate to work with Terry George and Front Row. At this point in my career, I am sure I will learn a lot on this journey."
