US President Joe Biden's first trip abroad will take him to the G7 summit in Great Britain and the NATO summit in Belgium in June.

The White House announced on Friday that a top meeting of the US and the EU is planned in Brussels.

With the trip, Biden wanted to underline his goal of reviving transatlantic relations and cooperation with allies.

At the summit of seven major industrialized countries from June 11 to 13 in Cornwall, Biden will reaffirm his commitment to multilateralism.

He will also hold bilateral talks with G7 heads of state and government, including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

At the G7 summit, Biden is likely to meet Chancellor Angela Merkel personally for the first time since taking office on January 20.

"President Biden will reaffirm the United States' commitment to NATO, transatlantic security and collective defense," the White House said in a statement.

During his stay in Brussels, Biden will also take part in the top meeting with the EU. Among other things, it should be about the fight against the pandemic, the revitalization of the global economy, the fight against climate change, the strengthening of democracy and other common foreign policy concerns.
