A French policewoman was killed by stabbing with a knife ... The authorities reveal the nationality of the attacker

An attacker stabbed an administrative employee of the French police in broad daylight, as she entered a police station in Rambouillet, near Paris, on Friday, killing her.

President Emmanuel Macron said his country had witnessed a new terrorist attack.

Two security sources said that the victim was stabbed in the neck.

Macron identified the victim of the attack as Stephanie and said the nation stood next to her family.

"We will spare no effort in our resolute war against terrorism," Macron wrote in a tweet.

Police officers shot the attacker.

The counterterrorism prosecutor in France said he would take over the investigation because the attacker had inspected the site and because of what he said during the execution of the attack.

The two security officials said the attacker was Tunisian and was residing in France with legal documents.

BFM television reported that he had previously lived in France illegally before obtaining a residency card, which is due to expire this year.

A third security source indicated that the attacker was not previously known to the French security services.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex described the attack as a terrorist.

"France lost one of its heroines in a barbaric and cowardly attack without borders," he said from the site of the attack outside the police station on a residential street.
