Västernorrland now has Sweden's highest spread of the coronavirus and the region states that healthcare is approaching a catastrophic situation.

At Sundsvall Hospital, a new ward was opened today to be able to care for covid patients.

Want to do more

The staff who work with covid care describe a tough work situation with a high workload and the feeling of not having enough.

- You feel that you are not doing a good job, you wish you could do so much more, says Malin and tells about meetings with patients who have shortness of breath, anxiety and are afraid.

In addition, the staff must handle patients passing away in the covid and meet their relatives.

- It kind of eats at you, even if you have worked for a long time, you do not get used to that bit, says Malin.

We do not see the end

Her boss also testifies that the situation is serious.

- We do not see the top and we do not see the far end, we are very tired, says Håkan Ekvall chief physician and unit manager at the infection clinic.

Everyone that SVT meets in the department emphasizes the importance of everyone taking the spread of infection seriously and following the recommendations that exist.
