Sudanese Irrigation Minister Yasser Abbas said that Ethiopia was eluding to reach an agreement and was working to buy time to make the filling of the Renaissance Dam a fait accompli.

Abbas added - in tweets on Twitter today, Friday - that in the event that the filling was completed without a legal agreement, Sudan has legal teams assisting it and international law firms, and he will file lawsuits against the implementing company and the government of Ethiopia.

He added that his country has developed several scenarios and technical and legal plans in the event that the second filling of the Renaissance Dam is completed without notice.

The Sudanese minister also said that the first filling of the Renaissance Dam took place without an agreement or even notification, adding that this was a surprise that made Sudan doubt the Ethiopian intentions, as he put it.

Abbas affirmed Addis Ababa's rejection of the recent invitation by Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok to his Ethiopian and Egyptian counterparts to hold a tripartite meeting in Khartoum, after the failure of the last round of negotiations in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Abbas’s statements came after Addis Ababa confirmed that it is proceeding with the second mobilization of the Nahda Dam lake on the Blue Nile between the next months of July and August, confirming its rejection of the Egyptian and Sudanese demands that the second mobilization process not take place until after reaching a binding agreement between the three countries directly concerned with the crisis. Dam.

Earlier, Addis Ababa rejected a Sudanese proposal to hold a meeting that would include the prime ministers of Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan to discuss the Renaissance Dam crisis. Before that, it had rejected Cairo and Khartoum’s request to expand international mediation to include - in addition to the European Union - the United States, the United Nations and the European Union. .

Accusing the mediator of bias towards Ethiopia

During his meeting with the Sudanese Minister of Irrigation in Khartoum, he said that his country wanted to reach an agreement that satisfies all parties.
