Grevesmühlen (dpa / mv) - Because of corruption allegations against District Administrator Kerstin Weiss (SPD), the district council of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg comes together for an emergency meeting this afternoon (4 p.m.).

The timing causes discussions, because on Sunday is the district election in northwest Mecklenburg.

Weiss is running for the post.

She is accused of being supported in her election campaign by the Pirate Open Air in Grevesmühlen (Northwest Mecklenburg), for which she campaigned.

Weiss rejected the allegations.

She said she paid for the services.

The allegations are currently being examined by the Ministry of the Interior as the legal supervisory authority.

Three parliamentary groups in the district council have announced that they want to stay away from the emergency meeting: SPD, Greens and Voting Community for Rural Areas, Environment and Agriculture (LUL).

They think the event is an election campaign and see no urgency, as they said.

The request for the special session came from the CDU and the left.

Weiss's candidacy for district administration is supported by the Greens.

Other applicants are Jörg Bendiks (Die Linke), Tino Schomann (CDU) and Timon Wilke (Pirates).
