Norrköping, Linköping, Eskilstuna and Uppsala have for three and a half years participated in the project Jakten på plasten.

The three million kronor the project cost they have received from the EU.

- The project has contributed to the fact that we now have concrete tools to work with to get a sustainable plastic procurement in the municipality.

For example, we have completely removed plastic cups from the range and all our waste bags now consist of recycled plastic instead of fossil.

Many plastic products can also be replaced with another material or even better replaced by reusable alternatives, says Karin Faxér, environmental strategist at Norrköping Municipality.

Municipal councilor Karin Jonsson (C) says in a press release that Norrköping municipality reduced purchases of disposable plastic gloves by 24 percent between 2018 and 2019. Despite the corona pandemic, consumption of plastic gloves is now lower than it did in 2018.
