Johan Perwe, communicator at the Forum for Living History, who would have been commissioned for the traveling exhibition, tells LT that they have no such basis.

In 1915, about 1.5 million Assyrians / Syrians, Armenians and Pontic Greeks were killed in the Ottoman Empire.

In modern times, it has been a big question whether the Riksdag and the government should acknowledge the genocide, also called Seyfo.

After years of lobbying and demonstrations, the Riksdag acknowledged the genocide in 2010, but the government, however, has not acknowledged the events - and the issue has been controversial.

Löfven turned around

Ahead of the 2014 election, Stefan Löfven promised during a visit to Södertälje that he, in the event of an election victory, would push the issue for a government recognition.

But in 2018, the tone was completely different.

- It is one thing for a parliament to acknowledge genocide, it is another thing for a government, said Stefan Löfven in an interview with SVT Nyheter Södertälje.

Promised to shed light on the genocide

Löfven's statement provoked strong reactions and shortly afterwards the then Foreign Minister Margot Wallström (S) was sent to Södertälje to meet genocide settlers.

She then promised to shed light on the genocide.

Among other things, there was talk of a traveling exhibition - something that the Forum for Living History, which would have been commissioned, thus does not know, according to LT.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs confirms to LT that the Forum for Living History has never received an assignment regarding Seyfo. "There are also no plans to give such an assignment in the near future," the Foreign Ministry's secretary writes to the newspaper.

Boel Godner (S), chair of the municipal board in Södertälje, says that she has now contacted the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to remind about the assignment.

- Now I have reminded via our channels, so the new Foreign Minister must fulfill it, she says.

SVT is looking for Margot Wallström for a comment.
