Ingolstadt (dpa) - Coach Don Jackson can only laugh about alleged fatigue after the surprisingly early playoff of EHC Red Bull Munich.

"Everything is okay with me," said Jackson at MagentaSport amused when asked about the 4: 5 (1: 1, 3: 1, 0: 2) on Thursday evening at ERC Ingolstadt.

"I'm fine and I'll be ready," said the 64-year-old American, referring to the upcoming season.

Munich had already lost the first quarter-final match against Ingolstadt 1: 4 on Tuesday. The EHC had previously won eleven of the last twelve preliminary round matches and was considered to be the most formidable team in the league and thus next to Adler Mannheim as the top favorite for the title. Munich last experienced an out in the quarter-finals six years ago. Then Jackson had led the EHC to three titles in a row. Since 2018, the Munich-based company, heavily subsidized by the Austrian Brause Group, has been waiting for a title.

"Even now we can't wait for the next season," said Jackson.

Under what circumstances this will take place is still unclear.

It has long been uncertain whether the coming season can take place again in normal mode and in front of spectators.

Even the current season was only possible with considerable effort and the waiver of salary by most of the players.

Red Bull also suffered from the changed and greatly shortened mode this time. Normally, the playoffs in German ice hockey are held in "best-of-seven" mode, so you have to win four wins to advance.

The "best-of-three" format played out this time opens up significantly more opportunities for outsiders.
