Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg zoo Hagenbeck will reopen its outdoor area to visitors from next Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the zoo said on Friday.

Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) had previously stated that Hamburg would take over the so-called corona emergency brake of the federal government to the extent that the outdoor areas of zoos and botanical gardens could open.

The hygiene rules apply as well as a mask requirement on weekends and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as the Senate announced.

Tschentscher emphasized that the Robert Koch Institute continues to recommend wearing masks outdoors if a minimum distance of 1.50 meters cannot be maintained.

In addition, a fixed appointment must be booked before the visit and a negative corona test certificate must be presented before admission.

These conditions could delay the opening of the botanical garden, said State Councilor Jan Pörksen.

The facility has fewer staff to monitor the regulations.
