Ibex in the Pyrenees

For Eric Sourp, from the Pyrenees National Park, it is the man who hunted the last Iberian ibex in France, so it is up to him to repair this fault.

Transported from Spain and equipped with a GPS collar, the ibex are reintroduced into the mountains.

We followed their first moments in nature.

They are now 270, whereas they had disappeared.

And this time, there is an absolute ban on hunting them.

Repair ecosystems

Among the most reintroduced species in Europe are beavers, bison, ibex and vultures.

And everyone has their role in the food chain and ecosystems.

Wild species have all “evolved and co-evolved through interactions between them of competition, predation, and cooperation,” recalls ecologist François Sarrazin.

Systems that must be completely restored.

Save habitats

But, for Madline Rubin, director of the Association for the protection of wild animals (Aspas), reintroducing animals is already too much.

Why not, quite simply, do nothing?

This is the idea of "Vercors wild life".

No breeding, no hunting, no reintroduction either.

Because in France, nature reserves or national parks are exploited, and you can even sometimes hunt there.

What if we simply left time for nature to rebuild itself to regain its rights?
