The mask requirement is tightened again in Hamburg.

With the entry into force of a new Corona regulation on Saturday, passengers in buses and trains will have to wear an FFP2 mask or mouth-nose protection according to a comparable standard (KN95).

"Simple medical masks are no longer allowed according to federal requirements," said the Senate.

Visits to the hairdresser and foot care are only possible with an FFP2 mask.

The service providers themselves must also wear protection according to this standard.

In one area, however, the city is loosening the rules due to the new Infection Protection Act: Hamburg's Hagenbeck Zoo will reopen its outdoor area to visitors from next Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the zoo said on Friday.

Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) had previously stated that Hamburg would take over the so-called corona emergency brake of the federal government to the extent that the outdoor areas of zoos and botanical gardens could open.

The hygiene rules apply as well as a mask requirement on weekends and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as the Senate announced.

Tschentscher emphasized that the Robert Koch Institute continues to recommend wearing masks outdoors if a minimum distance of 1.50 meters cannot be maintained.

In addition, a fixed appointment must be booked before the visit and a negative corona test certificate must be presented before admission. These conditions could delay the opening of the botanical garden, said State Councilor Jan Pörksen. The facility has fewer staff to monitor the regulations.
