Leipzig / Berlin (dpa / sn) - The weekly value of new corona infections has risen slightly again in Saxony.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) stated the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week as 209.3 on Friday, and 201.8 on Thursday.

This means that Saxony remains the most severely affected state after Thuringia (223.2).

Nationwide, the seven-day incidence on Thursday was 164.

Two regions within Saxony are further above the 300 mark: the Erzgebirgskreis (346.6) and the Zwickau district (316.5).

The districts of Central Saxony (289.1), Vogtland (249.6), Görlitz (220.8) and Bautzen (211.5) as well as the city of Chemnitz (201.8) are above the 200 threshold. The lowest value was recorded the cities of Leipzig with 121.9 and Dresden (129.5).

According to the RKI, the number of detected new corona infections increased on Thursday within 24 hours by 1902 to a total of 252 173. In addition, a further 33 deaths related to the corona virus were registered.

This means that 8,863 people have died of or with Covid 19 disease in Saxony since the pandemic began a year ago.
