Herzogenaurach (dpa / lby) - According to its own statements, the Franconian industrial and automotive supplier Schaeffler has largely concluded negotiations with the workforce to reduce staff and close locations.

Schaeffler announced at the annual general meeting on Friday in Herzogenaurach that a reconciliation of interests had been concluded at nine of the twelve affected locations.

"This enables Schaeffler to implement the majority of the measures."

Negotiations were still ongoing for the Wuppertal, Clausthal-Zellerfeld and Luckenwalde locations.

The relocation of production, the sale of the systems and also the closure are under discussion there.

More time is needed to find solutions.

Schaeffler had announced that it would cut a total of 4,400 of its more than 83,000 jobs worldwide by the end of 2022, primarily in Germany.

The background is the transformation, especially in the automotive industry.

Schaeffler CEO Klaus Rosenfeld is converting the company towards sustainability.

Wind power, hydrogen technology and electric drives are becoming more important.

In the first quarter of 2021, sales increased by more than 11 percent after adjusting for currency effects.

In 2020, Schaeffler reported incoming orders amounting to 2.7 billion euros in the e-mobility division, which was well above the target of 1.5 to 2 billion euros.

This year the series production of electric motors for hybrid modules, hybrid transmissions and all-electric axle drives will start.
