Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The parliamentary committee of inquiry of the Hamburg citizenship on the “Cum-Ex” scandal is continuing its questioning of the Warburg Bank owners this afternoon (2 p.m.).

As in the previous week, Max Warburg and Christian Olearius will probably not appear in person, but will be represented by their lawyers.

In the first questioning, attorney Klaus Landry denied all allegations: "We have neither knowingly nor willingly participated in illegal cum-ex deals."

Federal Finance Minister and SPD candidate for Chancellor Olaf Scholz is due to testify before the committee on April 30th.

The committee of inquiry wants to clarify the accusation that leading SPD politicians may exert influence on the tax treatment of the Warburg Bank involved in the "Cum-Ex" scandal.

The background to this are meetings between the then Hamburg Mayor Scholz and Olearius in 2016 and 2017. At that time, investigations were already underway against Olearius on suspicion of serious tax evasion.

Hamburg later allowed possible additional tax claims of 47 million euros to become statute-barred, a further 43 million euros was only claimed after the Federal Ministry of Finance intervened.

In the meantime, the Warburg Bank has paid all tax claims, but this is not an admission of guilt, as it emphasized.
