Halle (dpa / sa) - 9751 training positions have been reported to the employment agencies in Saxony-Anhalt for the training year beginning in late summer.

Compared to March of the previous year, this was 85 more apprenticeships, said the regional directorate for Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia of the Federal Employment Agency on Friday in Halle.

"Despite the difficult pandemic situation, employers in Saxony-Anhalt continue to rely on training," said Managing Director Markus Behrens.

According to Behrens, the effects of structural change, digitization and the consequences of the pandemic are becoming visible on the training market. Increases in jobs have been recorded in information technology, in business administration, public administration and in the field of education and teaching. In contrast, a decline in the number of apprenticeships can be seen in coal mining, energy supply, sports and entertainment services and the hospitality industry. According to Behrens, the last-named industries make it clear that they are particularly affected by the effects of the corona pandemic.

While the demand for apprentices in the companies is stable, the employment agencies reported significant declines in the number of applicants: By March, 6,678 young people in Saxony-Anhalt had registered with the employment agencies for placement in an apprenticeship position, more than 650 fewer than before a year.

Because of the corona-related contact restrictions and missed lessons, schoolchildren came into contact with the employment agencies' career advisors less often and also signed up for placement less often.

In terms of figures, there are currently 1.53 apprenticeship positions to choose from for each applicant who has not yet been provided.
