Cologne (dpa) - Among the nominees for the renowned Grimme Online Award are formats from the Tiktok video app for the first time.

As the Grimme Institute announced on Thursday, this year, among other things, the Tiktok channel of the “Tagesschau” is in the running for the award. The makers of the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR) presented both news in a maximum of one minute and “platform-typical nonsense”, it was praised. In this way, an audience is reached that “no longer follows linear television”. Also nominated was presenter Niklas Kolorz, who presented bulky topics in an understandable way on his Tiktok channel.

This year there are a total of 28 nominees for the undoped Grimme Online Award, which is considered the most important award for outstanding online journalism in Germany.

Formats on the corona pandemic, right-wing violence and, above all, podcasts were also well represented.

The winners will be announced on June 17th.

Up to nine award winners are possible.
