What he wanted to show this year is that Russia is in safe hands despite the pandemic, that the economy is doing quite well and that Putin himself is the right man to protect the people.
What emerged between the lines?
- He said nothing about the Ukraine conflict or about the opposition politician Navalny.
On the other hand, Russia is ready to face any possible threats both outside and within the country.
I think this shows that Putin and the Kremlin are aware that Russia is under pressure from the outside world and that there is in fact dissatisfaction among the population.
