Eisenach / Meiningen (dpa / th) - A few hours after the start of the trial of a massive attack against a cyclist in the Meiningen district court, the charges of attempted killing against the 18- and 19-year-old perpetrators were dropped.

Due to the admission of guilt by both defendants and their age at the time of the crime, they were sentenced to probationary youth sentences for dangerous bodily harm.

The 18-year-old got one year and four months probation, the 19-year-old got one year and six months probation.

"We do not assume that they acted in a killing attempt," said the presiding judge, Manuela Pallasch, when the verdict was announced.

The two young men of Syrian and Afghan nationality beat a cyclist in Eisenach in April 2020 with "particularly dangerous violence".

The man had previously verbally abused her and got off his bike and started the confrontation.

"We took credit for both of you that there were these provocations and insults," said the judge.

The massive violence on the 33-year-old could be justified “with nothing and no behavior”.
