Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian citizens are rather disappointed with the withdrawal of Markus Söder (CSU) on the question of the Union's candidacy for chancellor.

In a survey for “17:30 SAT.1 Bayern”, only 30 percent said they would welcome the CSU boss's waiver in favor of Armin Laschet (CDU), 63 percent said no.

In the survey, 52 percent of citizens said that they would have preferred Söder as a candidate.

The CDU chairman, on the other hand, came to 22 percent, about the same number were in favor of neither of the two.

Laschet also performed rather poorly in comparison with other candidates for chancellor.

When asked, “Who would you like to be the Chancellor personally?”, Annalena Baerbock, head of the Greens, landed in the front with almost a quarter of the votes.

Laschet and SPD applicant Olaf Scholz were far behind with 13 and 12 percent.

However, around half of the respondents did not want any of the three or anyone else or did not provide any information.
