Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's state parliament has approved the new State Treaty on gaming.

With the uniform gaming law, previously forbidden games of chance on the Internet such as virtual slot machine games, online poker and online casino games are to be allowed, regulated and controlled.

After ratification by all 16 state parliaments, the state treaty is to come into force on July 1st.

In the state parliament in Magdeburg on Wednesday evening, the CDU, SPD and Greens voted for the state treaty, the AfD voted against, the left abstained.

The new State Treaty on Gambling also includes the central gambling supervisory authority of the federal states, which is to be based in Halle. The institute is scheduled to start operating in 2023. To protect against gambling addiction, there should be a monthly maximum of 1000 euros for each player, which also applies across multiple providers, as well as central player lock files. AfD MP Jan Wenzel Schmidt criticized that it was not yet clear how this should be implemented. The SPD MP Rüdiger Erben criticized the fact that illegal activities have now been legalized for years. Like in online gambling, it does not exist anywhere else. Several MPs pointed out the problem of gambling addiction.

Saxony-Anhalt also wants to increase the advice for gambling addicts.

For this purpose, a state coordination center for gambling addiction and regional focus advice centers are to be set up in Magdeburg, Halle, Dessau-Roßlau, Halberstadt and Stendal.

The board spokesman of the umbrella association Die Deutsche Automatenwirtschaft eV (DAW), Georg Stecker, told the German press agency: “The new State Treaty on gaming heralds a turning point in gaming regulation.

We particularly welcome the fact that quality criteria are being applied for the first time in the regulation of commercial slot machine games.

Now it is important that the federal states actually rely on the quality of amusement arcades when implementing the state treaty and use the opportunity to separate the wheat from the chaff. "
