Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia's state parliament is urging the state government to pay out financial aid of 15 million euros to private and municipal forest owners as quickly as possible.

The aim is to preserve the forests damaged by drought and bark beetles and to stabilize them through afforestation, according to a motion decided on Thursday by the Left, SPD, Greens, CDU and FDP parliamentary groups.

The AfD parliamentary group abstained.

The money that was earmarked for this purpose in the state budget should be paid out as an area bonus in order to avoid bureaucracy, said the CDU MP Marcus Malsch.

The Greens spoke out in favor of paying a surcharge, among other things, for forests with a recreational function.

State Secretary for Agriculture Torsten Weil said that with an area premium, Thuringia would take a new approach to forest aid nationwide.

"We will try to make the funding guidelines as simple as possible," he said.
