Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Social Affairs Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) has rejected criticism of the state government's corona policy in the state parliament. She also warned against scare tactics with regard to the care of Covid 19 patients. There are currently 78 free intensive care beds, even if the location is very different from region to region. The hospitals have not yet been instructed to postpone planned operations. The development of further capacities is possible. "I do not see a life-threatening situation for the people in our country at the moment," said the minister.

In the debate about the country's corona strategy, Grimm-Benne said: "I clearly reject the subliminal assumption that we were firstly haphazard, secondly unjust and thirdly too lax". There is no silver bullet out of the pandemic. It takes a wide range of measures, including vaccination, testing and caution. "The incidences have to go down, that is the primary goal of our actions," said the minister.

Greens parliamentary group leader Cornelia Lüddemann had previously called for more consistent measures.

Demands for the involvement of parliaments or the structured involvement of scientific expertise in the form of a pandemic council have been ignored.

Among other things, the world of work needs to be looked at more closely.

The Greens opted for a low-incidence strategy.

“We generally welcome the emergency brake at the federal level.

But it's just a mechanism to prevent the worst, ”said Lüddemann.

The left-wing parliamentary group chairman Stefan Gebhardt said that as long as there was no compulsory test in the economy, the restrictions for the private sector could not be adequately explained.

AfD MP Robert Farle emphasized that his party wanted to lift all measures that maintain the AHA rules and, above all, protect the elderly in hospitals.

Minister of Social Affairs Grimm-Benne referred to the current figures from the Robert Koch Institute.

Accordingly, the nationwide value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and seven days was 161.1 and in Saxony-Anhalt 162.8.

The first vaccinations in the country were 22.4 percent, and the second vaccinations 5.9 percent.

This puts Saxony-Anhalt in one of the top positions in a nationwide comparison.

The left called for better pay for people in the nursing profession.

Group leader Eva von Angern said: «The job market for care professions has meanwhile been swept empty.

We need clear incentives such as better pay, good working conditions and enough time to relax. "

A one-time corona special payment for employees in health care is necessary. At the federal level, generally binding collective agreements for care workers are necessary.

Green parliamentary group leader Lüddemann called for political pressure to be maintained after the recent failure of such a collective agreement.

Because the nursing profession is extremely demanding, both physically and mentally, the 35-hour week must be introduced.

The CDU MP Tobias Krull said he regretted that there was no generally binding collective agreement for care.

But the CDU is relying on collective bargaining autonomy.

The current shortage of skilled workers cannot be remedied by short-term measures.

SPD parliamentary group leader Katja Pähle said that structural problems in the health system had to be solved.

The left's call for more money comes too soon.
