Berlin (AP) - The water polo players from Spandau 04 have completed the main round of the Champions League with an 8: 8 (3: 1, 1: 3, 3: 4, 1: 0) against CC Ortigia.

With six points and fifth place in the group of six, the premier class for the Berliners is over for the current season.

The first four teams will move into Final 8 in Belgrade at the beginning of June.

Spandau had already lost his chance the day before with the 5-8 defeat against CN Marseille.

After ten game days, the Wasserfreunde have a record of two wins, three draws and five defeats.

The performance of the young players was positive for the weak Berliners in all three games of the tournament in Ostia near Rome.

Against Ortigia, the team of coach Petar Kovacevic started focused and defensive.

Then the Italians dominated.

After the break, the match remained even.

In the final quarter, the outstanding Dmitri Kholod equalized with his fourth goal for Spandau.

Immediately after returning to Berlin, the German record champions have to play a double game on Friday against OSC Potsdam (6 p.m.) and SG Neukölln (8 p.m.) in the Schöneberg swimming pool in the Bundesliga.

The games had been postponed due to positive corona tests.
