Gelsenkirchen (dpa) - Sports director Peter Knäbel is stunned by the outbreaks of violence by some FC Schalke 04 supporters after the traditional football club's league was sealed.

Knäbel described this in a video message that was sent to all members of the Revierclub in an email on Wednesday as "disastrous when one has to fear for the life and limb of our employees."

After the team returned after the 0: 1 at Arminia Bielefeld on Tuesday, the players, coaches and supervisors were attacked by a few hundred angry and partly chased at the arena.

"What staff and players had to experience there has nothing to do with the Schalke 04 model," Knäbel said.

"You always have the feeling that it can't get any worse - and then something else will come."

The 54-year-old confirmed that it was now primarily about the attacked.

"What matters is how the people are, like Buyo Büskens, like Gerald Asamoah, like the players, some of whom had to stay in the hotel."
