Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Hamburger SV wants to become more involved in women's football again.

As the club announced on Wednesday, the team currently playing in the regional league will be back in the Bundesliga in the near future.

"We want to professionalize women's and junior football at HSV together," said HSV board member Jonas Boldt about the plans that are being jointly pursued by Fußball AG and HSV eV.

Catharina Schimpf, who is to work closely with the junior director Horst Hrubesch, will take over the post of coordinator for women's football.

At the beginning of his work in the Volkspark last year, the former women's national coach called for the revitalization of HSV women's football.

The HSV women played in the Bundesliga until the 2011/12 season, but were then canceled from the game.

In the aborted regional league season, the team was in second place.

«It is extremely unfortunate that the current regional league season has been canceled for our women's team.

We still have ambitions to play in the 2nd Bundesliga in the coming season, ”said Hrubesch.
