Berlin (dpa / bb) - In the investigation into the right-wing extremist attack series in Berlin-Neukölln, the suspect remains at large.

The Higher Regional Court had rejected a complaint by the Public Prosecutor's Office against the lifting of the arrest warrant as unfounded, the prosecution announced on Thursday.

It is true that the court affirmed the urgent suspicion of commercial fraud and several threats - and in the event of a conviction, T. would probably face a prison sentence. In the most serious allegations - the arson of two cars - the court did not see any urgent suspicion, it said. Possible fraud in the case of Corona emergency aid must be investigated further against T. The court therefore did not assume there was a risk of flight.

T. was released from custody in January, the arrest warrant was canceled.

A second suspect is also at large.

Although an arrest warrant had been issued against him, he was spared from custody.

Both men were arrested just before Christmas.

The arrest of the duo from the right-wing extremist scene was initially considered a success by investigators, and T.'s release was then a major setback.

The series of attacks involves at least 72 acts such as arson and threats against left-wing politicians and initiatives, especially between 2016 and 2018. The police had investigated for years without any major success.

Then the Attorney General took the investigation.

Most recently, Interior Senator Andreas Geisel (SPD) apologized to the victims of violence, racism and discrimination and said that they were not always dealt with appropriately.

Prosecutor General Margarete Koppers announced on Thursday that the higher court did not share the conviction of the public prosecutor's office that T. was responsible for the arson offenses.

However, it is possible, after further investigations, to come to an indictment.
