Erfurt (dpa / th) - The collective bargaining parties in the Thuringian metal and electrical industry want to adopt the pilot collective bargaining agreement from North Rhine-Westphalia for the industry.

The Association of the Metal and Electrical Industry in Thuringia (VMET) and the IG Metall Mitte union agreed on Thursday, as the VMET announced.

The agreement affects 18,400 employees in 56 companies.

Among other things, it provides for a one-time corona aid of 500 euros in June.

In addition, a new special payment of 18.4 percent of a monthly salary is to be paid for the first time in February 2022.

As of February 2023, this special payment will increase to 27.6 percent of the monthly salary and will then be payable annually.

Apprentices should receive a bonus of 300 euros.

The new collective agreement is retroactive to January 1, 2021, has a total term of 21 months and ends on September 30, 2022.

VMET negotiator Thomas Kaeser spoke of a “fair compromise” that had been reached in difficult times.

The fact that the existing collective agreement continues to work this year "was particularly important to us in view of the heterogeneous situation in the industry," Kaeser explained in a press release.

For the companies, the agreement means planning security and flexibility with low new burdens.

IG Metall district manager Jörg Köhler, who led the negotiations on behalf of the employees, described the result as an acceptable compromise.

"The zero round demanded by employers could be prevented," he said, according to the announcement.

"However, we have not succeeded in getting a perspective for the collective agreement of wage conditions on the way," it said in a message from the union.

"Thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, employers are still not ready to do this."
