Several political initiatives have followed in the footsteps of the five murders of women that have taken place in recent weeks.

Among others, Minister for Gender Equality Märta Stenevi, who called for party talks on violence against women.

She also wants to see increased penalties, including for gross violations of women's rights.

- It has been investigated within the government and it has come so far that we think we can add a legal council referral to the summer, says Märta Stenevi.

Foot shackles for threatening men

She believes that her own government has not done enough when it comes to preventing men's violence against women.

She now says she is in favor of introducing electronic foot shackles for threatening men with a contact ban, but when similar proposals have been raised before, the government has voted no in the Riksdag.

- I think you can think about whether we should have done more.

As long as we have between 15 and 25 women who per year are killed by their husbands, it is only to state that we have not done enough, says Märta Stenevi, who can not state when the government will propose such a change in the law.
