Kiel (dpa / lno) - Defending champion THW Kiel has celebrated the 21st win of the season in the handball Bundesliga.

The second in the table prevailed on Thursday with 32:26 (15:12) at MT Melsungen and remains one point behind the leaders SG Flensburg-Handewitt.

The best throwers of the evening were Niclas Ekberg with nine goals for the “Zebras” and Kai Häfner, who scored seven goals for the North Hesse.

After a good start, the Kiel team received five hits in a row and were 3: 6 behind in the tenth minute.

THW coach Filip Jicha then took a break and relied on the seventh field player.

With a 5-0 run to 8: 6 (16th minute), the North Germans took command again.

The hosts came out of the dressing room with renewed vigor.

The national players Julius Kühn and Timo Kastening brought the MT closer to 16:17 and 17:18.

But the record champions kept their nerve.

Nine minutes before the final whistle, Kiel was seven goals ahead.

The preliminary decision was made in favor of the guests.
