Innsbruck (dpa) - Due to the increasing number of infections, the Austrian state of Tyrol is extending the obligation to corona exit tests one more time until May 5.

The state government in Innsbruck announced on Thursday that the step was also decided because of a coronavirus mutant that appeared in Tyrol and that is related to the British virus variant.

Since the end of March you can only leave Tyrol with a negative test result.

The rule should have expired on Saturday.

The seven-day incidence in Tyrol was last at 213 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

After Vienna, this is the second highest value among the federal states of the Alpine country.

The Austrian average on Thursday was 182.

On Friday, the federal government and state representatives will discuss planned opening steps that could make things easier for gastronomy, trade, sport and culture in May.

Despite the situation in his federal state, Tyrolean head of state Günther Platter demanded from the conservative ÖVP a "clear, clear schedule" for the easing, which should be decided on Friday.
