While patting his pockets in front of the baker, he must have had the fright of his life.

Thanks to the perspicacity of the police, a man in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) was able to find the wallet, containing 4,300 euros, which he had lost.

Three days earlier, say the police, the man had sold his car, and recovered the sum in cash.

Before returning home, he goes to the bakery: it is there that he realizes that he no longer has the wallet, in which he had the fruit of the transaction.

"Without much conviction", he files a complaint at the police station.

Thanks to video surveillance

While combing the images of the video surveillance cameras of the bakery, he notices that it is the customer behind him, who, on leaving the shop, has retrieved the wallet, which has fallen into the gutter.

"Without the identification of the good, this customer remains a moment in front of the bakery, watching for a possible reaction from a person who would come forward", report the police.

She will keep the money at home, untouched, for three days, before the police contact her and the money is returned to its owner.

Surprised, no doubt.
