The man who was shot in the Hamburg district of Billstedt had an emergency operation on Thursday night in Hamburg and is no longer in mortal danger.
The 41-year-old had previously been shot several times by a previously unknown perpetrator after an argument in front of a residential building.
The victim was hit in the leg and hip, the police said.
The man was driven to a hospital in an ambulance and operated on.
Because of the high blood loss, it was initially assumed that there was danger to life.
