After a computer expert found child pornography on a teacher's laptop, the Hamburg police searched the suspect's apartment.

Various storage media were secured, said a police spokeswoman on Thursday in Hamburg.

According to initial findings, the teacher had had his defective laptop passed on to the IT specialist via a colleague at work.

"He came across the child pornographic material during the repair and then informed the police directly."

The detective service then took over the investigation and obtained a search warrant for the teacher's apartment and carried it out on Sunday.

The "Hamburger Abendblatt" had previously reported.

The police spokeswoman said it will take some time until all of the seized storage media have been evaluated.

According to the newspaper report, it should be several terabytes of data.
