Dresden (dpa / sn) - According to the Greens, the farmers need support with their problems with climate change.

«Agriculture and politics, consulting and science have to pull together here.

Pointing fingers at each other doesn't help, ”said Green politician Volkmar Zschocke on Thursday after a hearing in the Saxon state parliament.

"The weather conditions have become more extreme," continues Zschocke.

“After the third hot summer in a row and the persistent drought, farmers in Saxony are in trouble.

Loss of income is increasing ».

On the other hand, the conditions for the environment and biodiversity in the agricultural landscape are at a poor level: "The solution to such a conflict cannot be expected of agriculture alone."

According to Zschocke, the adaptation of agriculture to the changed climatic conditions must not happen at the expense of the environment.

It is not only necessary to adapt the cultivation methods, crop rotations, the choice of plants and animal husbandry, but also to include nature conservation measures more closely.

The water retention in the area is an important aspect to counter the drought.
