Düsseldorf / Berlin (dpa) - Parts of a wrecked Transall transport aircraft of the Bundeswehr are now in front of the Düsseldorf theater as a spectacular art action.

On the renovated Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz in the middle of the futuristic city architecture, the parts of the 40-year-old discarded Transall were installed.

From May to the start of the season in September, the Schauspielhaus and the artist group Raumlabor Berlin are planning a multifunctional installation that keeps changing, said Schauspielhaus spokeswoman Martina Aschmies on Thursday.

The artist collective obtained the aircraft parts from the Bundeswehr in Munich via the Internet.

"The Transall served the Bundeswehr for 40 years, now it is being sawed apart and scrapped," said Benjamin Foerster-Baldenius.

He is one of nine architects who are behind Raumlabor and whose central work area is art.

According to Aschmies, a modular visitor stand is also part of the installation and offers a venue for up to 400 people, which can be used for up to 200 people under Corona conditions.

The Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and partners are planning an open-air summer on Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz this year.

The installation “Third Space” was originally developed for the Ruhrtriennale and has now been redesigned for Düsseldorf.

Raumlabor Berlin has already been invited to the Architecture Biennale in Venice several times.
