In Hamburg, the new vaccine from Johnson & Johnson will initially be given primarily to the homeless.

The vaccinations could take place at short notice after the vaccine has been delivered, "possibly within a week," said the spokesman for the health authority, Martin Helfrich, on Thursday of the German press agency.

"As soon as the delivery arrives, we will start with it."

About 1,000 homeless people can be reached via the winter emergency program, said Helfrich.

As residents of collective accommodation, they are in prioritization group 2 and are therefore eligible for vaccination.

The vaccine from Johnson & Johnson is ideal for this group of people because, according to the manufacturer, complete vaccination protection is achieved with one injection.

It was only on Tuesday that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) gave the green light for the US drug to be launched in Europe after a renewed examination.

Unlike in other federal states, Hamburg will maintain the prioritization when vaccinating with AstraZeneca. There is no reason to change the sequence of vaccinations according to the need for protection, said the spokesman for the health authority, Martin Helfrich, on Thursday of the German press agency. The availability of vaccines is still too low for this. "It is still not the case that the amount is sufficient to meet the demand." Even after the back and forth over the approval of AstraZeneca, no vaccine remains. “That's why we're sticking to the prioritization.” During this week, however, all over 60-year-olds in Hamburg were able to arrange a vaccination appointment with AstraZeneca regardless of the prioritization. The approximately 24,000 appointments are said to have been fully booked after a short time.

The Hamburg CDU, on the other hand, demanded that the vaccine be completely released for all those willing to vaccinate. "Vaccination is the key to getting back to normal and anything that speeds vaccination should be done," said Citizenship Group leader Dennis Thering. "After the first federal states decided yesterday to give up age and vaccination prioritization for AstraZeneca, Hamburg should also take this step immediately."

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), a total of 511,373 vaccine doses were administered in Hamburg up to and including Wednesday.

According to this, 403,319 people received a first and 108,054 a second vaccination.

The rate for those vaccinated for the first time was 21.8 percent, and for people with complete vaccination protection it was 5.8 percent.

This puts Hamburg slightly above the national average of 21.6 percent for first vaccinations, but lags behind the nationwide 6.9 percent for second vaccinations.

According to the health authority, the number of vaccinations should be kept at a high level in the coming week.

56,000 appointments at the vaccination center in the exhibition halls can be booked from this Friday by calling 116 117 or online at www.impfterminservice.de, said Helfrich.

The members of the priority groups 1 and 2, including all people over 70 years of age, primary school teachers, educators and people with certain pre-existing illnesses, were called on.

The number of new corona infections drops in a weekly comparison

Meanwhile, the number of new corona infections in Hamburg fell for the eighth day in a row in a weekly comparison. Although there were 416 newly detected cases on Thursday, the health authority announced. That is 16 more than on Wednesday, but 42 less than on Thursday a week ago. The seven-day incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, fell from 130.3 to 128.1. A week ago it was 147.4. The RKI gave the incidence for Hamburg on a different calculation basis as 108.5. This is the second lowest value in a state comparison after Schleswig-Holstein (70.9).

According to the RKI, the number of people who died of or in connection with Corona in Hamburg increased by four to 1442. According to the health authority, 304 Covid 19 patients were treated in the hospitals as of Wednesday, four fewer than the day before.

The number of patients in intensive care units fell by three to 117.

Nursing home residents have to wait an extra day for relaxation

The announced easing of the corona rules in Hamburg senior nursing homes will be delayed until Saturday.

The new regulation will not be published until Friday and will come into force the following day, the health authority said.

This is done to ensure a time synchronization with the federal regulation, said authority spokesman Martin Helfrich on Thursday.

The authority last announced on Tuesday that fully vaccinated residents of nursing homes would be allowed from Friday to meet each other again without a mask and a minimum distance.

You would then no longer need to be routinely tested.

The vaccinated nursing staff only has to do one rapid test per week.

Visitors still have to be tested, but are allowed to come daily, as before the pandemic.

The reason for this is the low number of corona infections after the vaccinations in the homes.

In all of Hamburg, only six residents of five facilities are affected, the health authority had further announced.

In addition, 25 employees are infected.

At the beginning of February, the virus was still detected in 378 residents in 38 nursing homes.

When asked why the easing does not come into force earlier if the reason for the restrictions has already been removed, Senate spokesman Marcel Schweitzer said on Tuesday: "It's true that speed is of the essence." However, the nursing home operators said they needed something Time to adjust your personnel planning and inform the family members.

Despite the delay in the new regulation, the current version continues to apply, said Helfrich.

On the website of the authority, above the reading version of the regulation, it says “valid from April 17 to 22, 2021”.

Only in Paragraph 40, the last of the regulation, is May 2nd given as the date for the expiry.
