Erfurt (dpa / th) - The month-long lockdown in the corona pandemic is now also leaving economic traces in the Thuringian craft, which has long been considered to be quite stable.

"There is a considerable deterioration in the business situation in all areas," said the President of the Thuringian Crafts Day, Stefan Lobenstein, on Thursday in Erfurt.

The back and forth with the opening and closing of areas, especially with personal services such as hairdressers or beauticians, «makes us weary.

The craft is running out of breath, ”said Lobenstein.

An economic survey by the Chamber in Erfurt showed that 47.3 percent of companies are struggling with lower sales compared to the first quarter of 2020.

Nevertheless, a majority of the companies - according to the survey, 76.2 percent - would keep their employees, sometimes also through short-time work.

While things are still relatively stable in the finishing trade, the situation in the motor vehicle trade has deteriorated significantly.

“There are 20 percent fewer registrations and less mobility.

This results in a lower workshop utilization », said Lobenstein, who is also president of the Erfurt Chamber of Crafts.

The expectations for the coming months are subdued.

Only 18.6 percent of the establishments assumed a good development, 63.1 percent assumed a satisfactory and 18.3 percent assumed a bad development.

According to many companies, the new obligation to provide corona test offers is an additional burden.

Crafts are an important economic factor in Thuringia with almost 30,000 companies and around 150,000 employees.

The annual turnover before the corona pandemic was around eleven billion euros.
