Berlin (dpa) - The Champions League contenders VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund have underpinned their ambitions on matchday 30 of the Bundesliga.

Borussia followed suit with a 2-0 (1-0) win against 1. FC Union Berlin on Wednesday evening after Eintracht Frankfurt had also presented 2-0 against FC Augsburg the day before. As a result, Dortmund remains four points behind in striking distance to fourth place, which entitles to participate in the highest European competition and which the Hessians currently hold. The third-placed wolves solved their task at VfB Stuttgart 3-1 (2-0).

Borussia Mönchengladbach, on the other hand, suffered a damper in the fight for qualification for the Europa League and gave up a 2-0 break lead in the 2: 3 defeat at the last ailing TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

In the basement of the table, Werder Bremen comes under increasing pressure through the 0: 1 (0: 1) against direct rivals FSV Mainz 05.

The Rheinhessen passed and now have 31 points on the account.

Dortmund had recently fallen behind four times in the league and it would have been that time again after twelve seconds against the club from the capital. However, Marcus Ingvartsen failed with a flick on the crossbar. The home side recovered from this shock moment. Marco Reus was brought down in the penalty area. Erling Haaland missed the penalty, but Reus put the margin in the goal (27th). In the final phase, Raphael Guerreiro made everything clear (88th).

But because the Wolfsburg in Stuttgart also benefited from their effectiveness, they can keep Dortmund at a distance.

Xaver Schlager (13th), Wout Weghorst (29th) and Yannick Gerhardt (65th) scored for VfL.

For the Swabians, who are in the secured midfield, Philipp Förster missed a hand penalty (26th).

Gonzalo Castro scored the consolation goal in stoppage time.

The Gladbachers seemed to be able to continue their upward trend at first, but the Kraichgau morality proved.

Andrej Kramaric (48th / 65th) and Ihlas Bebou (58th) turned the game around within 17 minutes after conceding Alassane Plea (25th) and Valentino Lazaro (45th + 1).

In Bremen, Mainz once again underlined its away strength and even set a new club record.

Six times in a row, the 05er in the upper house in a foreign country have never been unbeaten.

Adam Szalai's goal made the difference (16th).

Bremen were unlucky immediately before the break because the alleged equalizer by Josh Sargent had been preceded by an offensive foul.
