After the power struggle in the Union for the candidacy for chancellor, according to a survey, the CSU would currently only get 34 percent in the federal election.

This is the result of a survey for “Sat.1 Bayern”.

This would mean that the Christian Socials were once again significantly worse than in the 2017 federal election, when they came to only 38.8 percent after a loss of more than 10 percentage points.

CSU General Secretary Markus Blume blamed the sister party for the poor performance: "This is a result of the decision of the CDU," he said on Thursday.

“We can feel the disappointment with the development here in Bavaria as well.

It's going to be a difficult road now. ”At the beginning of the week, the CDU board member had chosen party leader Armin Laschet as candidate for chancellor.

In the telephone survey by the GMS institute from Hamburg, the Bavarian citizens also stated that they were rather disappointed by Markus Söder (CSU) 's withdrawal on the question of the candidacy for chancellor.

Only 30 percent said that they welcome the CSU boss's waiver in favor of Laschet, 63 percent said no.

52 percent of those questioned would have found Söder better

In the survey, 52 percent of citizens said that they would have preferred Söder as a candidate.

Laschet, on the other hand, came up with 22 percent, and about the same number were in favor of neither.

Laschet also performed rather poorly in comparison with other candidates for chancellor.

When asked "Who would you most like to be as Federal Chancellor?", Annalena Baerbock, head of the Greens, landed in first place with just under a quarter of the votes.

Laschet and SPD applicant Olaf Scholz were far behind with 13 and 12 percent.

About half of the respondents, however, did not want any of the three or anyone else or did not provide any information.

In the Sunday question about a federal election, the Greens were the second strongest force in the survey with 25 percent (2017 election: 9.8 percent of the second votes), the FDP got 11 percent (10.2 percent) and the SPD and AfD each got 10 Percent (15.3 and 12.4 percent, respectively).

1001 respondents took part in the representative telephone survey in Bavaria from April 20-22, 2021.
