Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The compulsory stable for poultry is lifted against the background of the weakening bird flu in large parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

In the Rostock district, this obligation still applies in two areas until the end of the month, as the Ministry of Agriculture announced in Schwerin on Wednesday.

For more than two weeks there have been no positive results in wild birds in the state, and not in domestic poultry for more than three weeks.

“Almost 350,000 animals that were kept in small and large farms fell victim to the disease.

This was the worst poultry epidemic in the history of the country, "said Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) according to a statement.

Backhaus emphasized that preparations were necessary for the coming autumn.

“I would like the federal government to get involved and, for example, intensify research into effective vaccines against avian influenza.

We need help for the poultry farmers so that they can bring their stables up to date in terms of disease hygiene. "

Avian influenza is an infectious disease that occurs primarily in waterfowl and other birds.

The epidemic is particularly rampant in the winter months from late October to April and is therefore closely related to bird migration.
