Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - Using breathing apparatus, the Dortmund fire brigade rescued a dog and a cat from a burning apartment on Thursday afternoon.

The rescue workers were alerted around 3:20 p.m., as a fire department spokesman announced.

When they arrived at the scene of the accident, heavy smoke was already coming from the apartment on the first floor.

The neighbors informed the fire brigade that although there were no people in the burning apartment, there were a dog and two cats.

The firefighters then deployed troops wearing respiratory protection to get to the source of the fire, save the animals and fight the fire.

A dog and a cat were quickly found by the emergency services and taken outside.

Both were unharmed.

However, the cat was given some oxygen by the rescue service with a mask.

According to the fire brigade, the second cat fled the apartment through the window.
