Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - After massive violations of corona rules, the city of Saarbrücken is introducing a ban on alcohol in public places and streets in the city from this Friday.

The city of Saarbrücken announced on Thursday evening that these are areas of the city center that are particularly popular or heavily frequented for celebrations.

The alcohol ban applies from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

There are exceptions for outdoor catering.

Last weekend, the police found violations of the corona rules at celebrations of 400 to 500 people in the St. Johanner Markt in Saarbrücken.

Out of the crowd, a group had insulted the emergency services and pelted them with bottles.

So far, 68 criminal and administrative offense proceedings have been initiated.

A total of 46 people have been identified so far.
