Berlin (AP) - A gang of alleged jewel robbers has been caught by the Berlin police.

The criminal police and special operations commandos (SEK) searched 27 apartments and other rooms in Berlin, Brandenburg and Lower Saxony on Thursday morning, as announced on Thursday.

Three men, aged 35, 38 and 51, have been arrested and nine other men are under suspicion.

The gang is said to have committed robberies in apartments, single-family homes and a jewelry store.

The perpetrators are often said to have been dressed similarly to police officers.

They are said to have tied up their victims and threatened them with a gun.

In total, they are said to have stolen jewelry, watches and money worth more than one million euros.

300 police officers were involved in the searches.

The police had been investigating for months.

The twelve suspects are between 22 and 62 years old.

Since 2018, they are said to have committed the robberies very specifically and with a lot of planning effort.

They are said to have sold parts of the booty to a jewelry store.

In addition, some of the suspects are said to have tried to break into other apartments.

During the searches in five locations, the police also found two live firearms, various alarm pistols and 1.5 kilograms of marijuana.
