Navy soldiers who have to spend a long time in a ship filter the seawater with some equipment and use it to eat or wash the water. However, when Japan recently decided to flush the contaminated water from nuclear power plants into the sea, an investigation was conducted to see if it would affect our navy, and we obtained the results of the study.

This is an exclusive report by Kim Tae-hoon, a defense reporter

<Reporter> In the

machine room of the Navy Aegis destroyer King Sejong, the soldiers are working on the equipment called ‘The New Zealand’.

The fresh water generator is an essential equipment for ships of 400 tons or more and filters out sodium chloride and impurities to make seawater drinkable fresh water.

The interior space is so narrow and the drinking water tank is small, so even in a submarine where water is scarce, fresh water filtered with a tide is essential.

Use it to wash your hands and cook rice, and drink it like bottled water.

If Fukushima radioactive water flows into the waters of our naval operations, can we drink fresh water from the tide?

In May of last year, the Navy entrusted a study on the subject of'the effect of radioactive contaminated water on mission performance' to a private research institute.

A recent report came out, saying, "The tidal wave cannot filter out radioactive substances such as tritium, cesium, and strontium," and "measures need to be prepared to perform the mission."

The Navy has 150 ships and 16,000 soldiers who need a tide.

If this is the case, it is inevitable to be exposed to radioactive substances or to stop using the generator, which inevitably weakens the power.

[Moon Geun-sik/Kyunggi University Professor (from submarine captain): If you cannot use the tide, you will not be able to operate and train for a long time in the sea, so you have to return to the port. Eventually, it will lead to a weakening of the navy's power.]

Even Dokdo, which our police guards, is using a tide.

Receiving the results of the study, the Navy is thinking about preparing a countermeasure, but it is a reaction that there is no sharp solution right away.
