Aachen (dpa / lnw) - In the trial for a murder almost 25 years ago, an important witness reported on Wednesday about the accused's description of the crime.

The 51-year-old worked for him in the car workshop and told about the murder, said the man in the trial before the regional court in Aachen.

Accordingly, the bloody act was committed at the end of 1996 by the brother of this witness and the defendant in order to get 5000 marks from the victim.

At the time, several knew about it, said the witness.

His brother, the alleged accomplice, died in an accident in Turkey in 1997.

According to the information provided by the witness from Würselen near Aachen, the investigation had started again more than 20 years after the murder of the long-unknown man. He recognized the victim from a new phantom image, gave the name and said that he knew who murdered the man. The dead man found in December 1996 on the edge of a gravel pit on the Lower Rhine was identified and the family of the 43-year-old who was killed was informed. The defendant in the murder trial has not yet given evidence.

The witness reported about the alleged perpetrators' descriptions: that his brother hit the victim with a hammer and that the accused strangled the seriously injured man.

They reported to him separately.

"It was told without any emotion," he said.

The witness remained indefinite in several details and reacted irritably to inquiries from the presiding judge, who threatened him with a fine.

The man said he did not report anything at the time because he had a lot to do with the police himself.

He was convicted of assault at a young age.

He survived cancer, saw the amount about the murder while zapping on television, and called.

"At some point you can no longer live with the burden," he said.
