Yesterday, the Egyptian Minister of Transport, Major General Kamel Al-Wazir, decided to dismiss the head of the Egyptian Railways Authority after two train accidents in less than a month that left more than 30 people dead, according to a ministry statement.

The statement said, "The chairman of the board of directors, Muhammad Raslan Shalabi, was transferred to the position of advisor to the minister for railway affairs."

The statement added that Mustafa Abul-Latif Abul-Makarem was appointed as the head of the commission.

The statement affirmed that changes are made in the leaderships of the railway authority, especially in the maintenance and development sectors, adding that the aim of these decisions is not merely to make adjustments in the leaders of the authority, but rather to the nature of the next stage, which “requires the payment of a number of competencies to complete the comprehensive development process of the railway system that is being implemented, and to present Better services and work around the clock to serve the passenger public, and make more efforts to upgrade the railway facility that carries millions of passengers annually. ”

The "Al-Ahram Gate" website said that the changes included the appointment of 10 leaderships for the "railway".

Last Sunday, at least 11 people were killed and about 100 injured when a train derailed in Qalyubia Governorate, north of Cairo, three weeks after another train accident killed 20 people on March 26th in Sohag Governorate in southern Egypt.

Tragic train accidents frequently occur in Egypt.
