Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Lower Saxony state parliament is dealing with the corona crisis and planned nationwide restrictions in the fight against the virus in a special session on Wednesday.

In view of the third wave of infections and the stricter corona course enforced by the federal government, Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) is making a government statement.

Since Lower Saxony has long since implemented most of the planned tightening such as a night curfew in hotspots, the government is hardly expected to object to the planned federal rules, which are to be passed in the Bundestag on Wednesday.

It looks different with the opposition.

The FDP rejects the tougher federal course in an application, the Greens are demanding tougher measures than planned.

The corona situation in Lower Saxony looks anything but good: 33 of the 45 districts and large cities are now hotspots with a high incidence, the number of corona patients in clinics and intensive care units is increasing.

When it comes to vaccination, the country is currently below the national average.
